Talking Art,
An Open Forum for Working Artists

You are welcome to join this informal gathering of working artists, meeting to discuss art and art related matters from its philosophy to its creation, from its practice to periods of fallowness. This is a space where working artists can feel free to brainstorm, analyze, construct and deconstruct the visual arts.

Different opinions create discussions which are lively, engaging and facilitate the development of ideas. The conversation is often about individual practice and the different directions that artists can both start from and arrive at. The sessions are not always topic based, but follow the interests of those present on the night.

Julie Douglas is well known for her drawing courses, and teaches everyone new observational skills, so whether you are a beginner, or a more experienced painter, you will benefit from taking stock, and sharpening your ‘Looking’ Skills. Drawing is a rewarding, fulfilling experience, which may not be easy, but from Julie’s experience and belief it can be taught, and everyone can learn to improve hugely, in a remarkably short space of time.

Drawing, the ability to look, observe, understand and reproduce what you see before you is the first and most important step towards producing a picture. Neglecting this area means that you will become increasingly frustrated with your paintings. Painting without learning to draw according to Julie is like trying to run before you can walk. Luckily, learning to draw is fun and the results so rewarding that it is worth putting your paints away for a little while and getting down to basics. This applies to both the complete beginner and the more experienced painter.
Julie is a very gentle, encouraging teacher, who\'s sense of humour and patience will see that you enjoy this course. Studies and exercises in pencil, charcoal, pastels, and coloured pencil.

The space is unfurnished but has a large built in storage closet. Gas heating and the electricity can be run off a meter and artists have 24 hours access to the studio.

This spacious studio looks out onto the hill up to Canice\'s Cathedral and is 10 min form Bennetsbridge and 20 min from Thomastown. With a few other artists this space would be perfect and a gallery next door, what more do you need?!

Notice: LITTLE GHOST ARTISTS STUDIOS FOR RENT
Name: Little Ghost
Telephone: 0851032909
Email: littleghostgallery@gmail.com
Website: http://littleghostgallery.com/
Details:
The Little Ghost Gallery is looking for new artistic neighbours. We are hoping to build up an artist community in and around the area of the Coach Road on the way up to St Canice’s Cathedral and Dean Street. This area has many properties to let and many empty office and shop front that we feel are going to waste. This is where we feel the artistic community can step in and create an established artistic ghetto of sorts.

There is a great studio space beside the gallery up for rent and we are hoping to get artists in make a creative atmosphere. The room is split into three spaces, one large, one medium and one small. There is a storage closet and the small room to the front could be used as a dark room if it’s needed. It’s a cosy little space and looks out onto the hill up to Canice’s Cathedral.

The space is ideal for an artist studio and would comfortably house at least 3 - 4 artists. The space is unfurnished but I\'m sure there would be a skip you can steal from somewhere. There is Gas heating and the electricity can be run off a meter if it suits you better than a bill.

Kilkenny is becoming a great place to set up shop as an artist. Since the new by-pass went in Dublin is less than an hour and a half away. Its 20 min from Thomastown and 10 min form Bennetsbridge. Perfect. If you’re an artist wanting to set up a new artist collective with a few other artists this space would be perfect and you have a gallery next door, what more do you need?

If you or someone you know would be interested in renting this space please contact us at the Little Ghost Gallery by emailing us at littleghostgallery@gmail.com and please pass it on to anyone you know who may be interested.
